Wilma Silvius - Farmer & Maker of Cheese

Wilma Silvius is the matriarch of her world, she is a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a scholar, a farmer and a producer of cheese. Originally from Holland, Wilma came to Ireland in 1980 where she met and married her husband John O’Connor in 1983 and set up home in Killorglin, Co. Kerry.
Handmade Artisan Cheese Producer
Wilma Silvius makes a Gouda-style cheese on her farm in Killorglin, Co Kerry. She uses milk produced from Holstein cows on her husband’s farm. Wilma likes to flavour her cheeses with cloves, fenugreek, seaweed or garlic, and ages them for a min of 6 weeks.
Women on Farms

Wilma Silvius is hands-on, on the farm, along with her husband, she works long hours each day doing chores around the farm, feeding and milking the cows and making her Artisan Cheese.
The Local Farmers Market, Miltown, Co. Kerry

Wilma Silvius also manages the local Farmers Market in Miltown, Co. Kerry, Ireland. Here a group of local Artisan Food and Crafts people sell their local handmade goods. Milltown Farmers’ Market is a vibrant place, held in a beautiful old church in the town every Saturday, from 10am 2pm. Here’s a chance to meet local people who love talking about their produce. Every Saturday, you will find Wilma Silvius at this vibrant space selling her handmade artisan cheese.
